A Hillsborough sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries trying to get into the burning mobile home to rescue the victims.

TAMPA – An adult and child were found dead inside a burned mobile home, according to the Hillsborough County sheriff.

It is unclear who they might be. The Medical Examiner’s Office will need to make a positive identification of the victims and a next of kin notification made before any further information
can be released regarding victims’ identities. It is unclear how long that will take.

A Hillsborough sheriff’s deputy was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns to his hands. He received the injuries when trying to get inside to rescue the victims. He was released from the hospital and is home recuperating, officials said.

Deputies said they received a 911 call about 11 p.m. Wednesday (July 20) that an occupied, single-wide mobile home was on fire in a mobile home park at Garden Lane and Clewis Avenue. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and deputies arrived and began lifesaving attempts to rescue anyone inside the residence. The fire was quickly put out and the two victims were found inside the home.

The State Fire Marshals Office, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office and sheriff’s detectives are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
