Off-Duty Deputy Finds Dead Body in Mobile Home Fire
The cause of the fire and the death are under investigation.
SPRING HILL – An off-duty deputy found a dead body when he entered a manufactured home Saturday (Nov. 21) to help put out a fire.
No information was available about the body or its identity. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Deputies and the Florida Fire Marshall’s Office are also investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
Firefighters from Hernando County Fire Rescue were called about 11:20 a.m. to a residential fire in the 7000 block of Sealawn Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke from the manufactured home.
An off-duty deputy had entered the structure before firefighters arrived and put out the majority of the fire. While entering the home he found a deceased occupant.
Fire crews used a hoses to put out the the remaining fire.
The fire was completely under control at about 11:31 a.m. The fire caused moderate damage to the mobile home.
Firefighters want to remind the community to change smoke detector batteries twice a year and conduct routine fire risk assessment on your homes.
