Firefighters Battle Blaze at Cortez Boulevard Walmart in Brooksville
The store is closed at this time. It is unclear when it will reopen.
BROOKSVILLE – The cause of an explosion and fire in a tractor trailer at the Cortez Boulevard Walmart is under investigation even as firefighters are working to douse the flames.
No one has been injured in the blaze and the store is closed until further notice.
Just after 5 a.m., a Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy who was already stationed in the parking lot of the Walmart at 13300 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville, heard an explosion at the western end of the store.
The deputy called for Hernando County Fire Rescue and backup.
Upon arrival at the rear, western end of the store, the deputy said he saw three tractor trailers. The tractor trailer in the middle was on fire. The deputy quickly checked the vehicles for occupants and was able to safely remove the only occupant from one of the other two vehicles.
As other deputies arrived, they helped evacuate the store because the three tractor trailers were parked very close to the building.
As fire crews arrived, the fire had spread to the other two tractor trailers. Fire crews were still battling the fire about 6:30 a.m.
The store remains closed and will remain so until further notice.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
