The station is scheduled to be complete in February 2017.

SEMINOLE – Construction has begun on a new fire station to serve residents in northern Seminole and parts of the unincorporated Seminole area.

The station will replace the existing Fire Station 32, 10780 110th Ave. N, which was built by volunteers in 1969. The old station was razed in June. Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters said the old station was in such bad shape that, had it not been torn down, firefighters would likely have had to evacuate during Tropical Storm Colin.

The new station is being built in partnership with Pinellas County. The county is paying about 70 percent of the $2.1 million cost. The city is paying for the remainder.

When complete, the station will have s0lar-powered components and be able to withstand a category 5 hurricane.

While the station is under construction firefighters are based out of temporary quarters on 106th Avenue N off Seminole Boulevard.
