HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Land O’ Lakes man was killed Friday (June 24) after he was thrown from his vehicle during a traffic crash, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff.

Ilias George Bouboudis, 72, of Land O’ Lakes, died at a local hospital of injuries he received when he was thrown from his car during the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, deputies said. Sunilkumar Patel, 56, of Tarpon Springs, was airlifted to a local hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The crash happened about 7:40 p.m. Friday (June 24) on Tarpon Springs Road. Mr. Bouboudis drove his 2005 Hyundai Sonata onto the shoulder to avoid a large, white styrofoam block in the road. He traveled along the shoulder and over-corrected to the left, deputies said, then spun. As he crossed into the westbound lane of Tarpon Springs Road, he hit the 2015 Hyundai Elantra that Patel was driving.

Mr. Bouboudis’ car continued to spin and he was thrown from the vehicle, deputies said. The impact also caused Patel’s car to spin.
