Carrollwood Man Accused of Molesting Young Girls
Hillsborough deputies say he admitted to allegations of sexual battery against the girls.
CARROLLWOOD – A Carrollwood man has been arrested in connection with the sexual battery and molestation of juvenile girls.
Thomas Norbert Ryder, 57, was charged with two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a Victim Between 12 and 15 Years Old and one count each of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a Victim Younger Than 12 Years Old and Sexual Battery Custodial Authority. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say he admitted to the allegations of sexual battery.
Sheriff’s detectives said they were contacted by the mother of a young girl on Nov. 14 who had been told by another parent that her daughter told a friend the Ryder had touched her inappropriately while she was at his home on Fulmar Drive in Carrollwood. Ryder often served as a babysitter for the girl.
While interviewing the girl, detectives said they learned that Ryder had touched her inappropriately and taken nude photographs of her on multiple occasions over the course of two years. During the investigation, detectivesalso discovered that a friend of the girl, who had also spent time at Ryder’s home, claimed he had touched her inappropriately as well, taken nude photos, and sexually battered her on multiple occasions. The girls are under the age of 15.
“It is shameful that someone entrusted with the care of children violated their trust and the trust of their parents by committing such obscene and despicable acts,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are thankful that the juveniles involved had the courage to say something. I encourage any juvenile who is being taken advantage of to find an adult or a friend they can confide in and speak up. If you suspect a child is being abused, you can call the Florida DCF Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873 and file a report anonymously.”
