The truck ran a red light, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The driver of an SUV died Monday (Aug. 8) in a collision with a fuel truck that overturned, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said.

The name of the man who died is being withheld until his next of kin are notified. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The man was driving a 2014 Nissan SUV south on Sheldon Road. Deputies said the man had just passed Linebaugh Avenue where he had the green light. A Peterbilt fuel truck, driven by Craig Allen, 33, of Bartow, was traveling westbound on Linebaugh. Deputies said he failed to stop at the red light and struck the front of the Nissan. The Peterbilt rolled onto its side on top of the Nissan, trapping and killing the Nissan driver inside his vehicle.

Alcohol did not play a factor in the accident, deputies said. No charges have been filed at this time pending further investigation.
