ST. PETERSBURG – Get ready for the second annual Healthy St. Pete Fit City 5K and 1-Mile Fun Walk with a training session this Saturday (Feb. 17).

The training session begins at 8 a.m. in Al Lang Park, 230 1st St. SE, with one- and three-mile self-paced runs hosted by Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin, Kim Lehto of Healthy St. Pete and Ryan Jordan of St. Pete Run Fest.

Participants will learn running basics from St. Pete Running Company, along with recovery steps and stretching exercises from Back 2 Normal. Everyone is welcome and should gather in the grassy area near the stadium along Bay Shore Blvd; participants should wear exercise apparel, running shoes, and bring a water bottle. Fit City 5K participants may also benefit from an additional training opportunity on March 24 during the Race for the Cupcake 5K.

The second annual Healthy St. Pete Fit City 5K and One Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 7 at North Straub Park. This family-friendly wellness event features a chip-timed 5k, a one-mile fun walk, health and wellness vendors, fitness demonstrations, a kids’ zone and much more. The event is free and open to the public.

Individuals or teams may register online for either the run or the walk through April 6 at stpeteparksrec.org. The 5K registration fee is $17.50 ($15 plus a $2.50 convenience fee) and $7 ($5 plus $2 convenience fee) for the one-mile walk. On April 7, the 5K registration fee increases to $20. Participants may also register on race day in North Straub Park beginning at 7:30 a.m. Those registered for the 5K by March 23 receive an event t-shirt; t-shirts will also be available at the event but sizes are limited. Each participant will receive a commemorative finisher’s medal for either the 5K or one-mile walk, with a limit of one medal per participant.
