Gulfport Celebrates Pride with Peace, Love, Music
The event will kick off at noon today (Feb. 16) with a performance by the infamous Gulfport Gecko Amalgamated Marching Band and a lineup of guest speakers.
GULFPORT – Gulfport celebrates its pride and diversity today with a festival of music, refreshments and other pet-friendly activities.
Gulfport Peace, Love and Pride is designed to celebrate more than Gultport’s LGBTQ+ Pride, according to organizers.
“We’re proud of our hometown. We’re proud of our diversity. We’re proud that everyone is welcome here. This festival is a celebration for everyone!” the website says. “Gulfport, Florida is small but mighty when it comes to granting equal rights to LGBTQ residents, employees and visitors. According to some estimates, 30 percent of Gulfport’s 12,000+ population is LGBTQ. Our LGBTQ residents have played a major role in City government and community development for decades.”
Today’s festival starts at noon today (Feb. 16) at the Gulfport Casino and beach, 5500 Shore Blvd. S. It runs until sundown. This year’s festival is a benefit for the Gulfport non-profit organization, ProjectFREE.
The main sponsors for the Festival are ProSisters Radio, along with the city of Gulfport. Metro Inclusive Health will offer free rapid HIV and Hep C testing, and prevention education resources, at its mobile testing center at the event.
There will be a cash bar inside and other refreshments outside near the stage. Attendees will have an opportunity to shop for pride merchandise for themselves and their fur babies. Many of Tampa Bay’s top non-profit groups will also be on hand to educate attendees about their services.
Starting off the event at noon will be a walk on performance by the infamous Gulfport Gecko Amalgamated Marching Band and a lineup of guest speakers. Gulfport’s own Solar Flair rock band, representing Festival beneficiary ProjectFREE, will kick off this fantastic live music lineup.
The lineup will be showcasing some of Gulfport’s local favorites – the Gulfport Troubadours w/ Mike Thomas and Special Appearances from Ron Clausnitzer & Jay Kiernan (Art House Goons), Award winning Singer-Songwriter Colleen Clark, and Bluesmama Lynn DiVenuti.
The festival music lineup will wind up with powerhouse headliner Tony da band Rock & Soul Revival featuring, the soulful songbird, Julie Van Loan-Bivetto.
