Chris Hunter is running for the District 12 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

TRINITY – The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, has endorsed Chris Hunter for Congress in Florida’s 12th District.

“LCV Action Fund is excited to endorse Chris Hunter because he is deeply committed to protecting a clean and healthy environment for all,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Floridians in the 12th District deserve a representative who will invest in water security, oppose offshore drilling, and support common sense solutions to the threats posed by climate change. At a time when Florida’s beaches, rivers, and estuaries are more at risk than they’ve ever been, we need Chris Hunter fighting for us in Congress.”

Hunter said, “It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. I’m looking forward to prioritizing the protection of our water, air, and land in the next Congress.  By elevating science in policymaking, incorporating sustainability principles and practices, enhancing economic valuation of ecosystem services, and supporting innovative energy solutions, we can drive an exciting future focused on a value we all share: a clean and healthy environment.”

Hunter graduated from Boston College and received his law degree from Boston College Law School. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he joined the FBI and handled national security and international fugitive investigations. He later served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice focusing on health care fraud and money laundering cases.

Hunter was the editor-in-chief of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review and currently teaches international environmental policy at the University of Tampa. He is on the advisory council of Tampa Bay Watch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs, and he is the author of Seagrass Surprise, a children’s fiction book based on a conservation biology story. In Congress, Hunter has said he will focus on protecting Florida’s water and climate change resilience.

Hunter, a Democrat, is seeking the CD 12 seat held by Republican Gus Bilirakis. CD 12 includes all of Pasco County and portions of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. No-party candidate Angelika Purkis is also on the ballot.

The election is Nov. 6 and Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote in the general election.
