Sierra Club Endorses Cross for Florida Senate
Lindsay Cross is running for the District 24 seat in the Florida Senate.
ST. PETERSBURG – The Suncoast Group of the Sierra Club has endorsed Lindsay Cross in her race to be elected to the Florida Senate seat for District 24.
“We are very pleased to endorse Lindsay Cross, who has proven herself to be a strong advocate for the health of Florida’s environment and communities,” said Dan Huber, Sierra Club spokesperson. “Her knowledge and experience working on complex policy issues and ability to engage citizens and businesses in identifying solutions make us confident that she will help move the state towards a renewable energy future that ensures access to clean air and clean water for all.”
Cross has an impressive track record in environmental conservation. She has worked on water quality issues and habitat restoration with the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, published on the effects of climate change, and most recently served as the executive director of the Florida Wildlife Corridor, a conservation advocacy organization, Huber said. Throughout these efforts, Cross has sought ways to protect the beauty and integrity of Florida’s environment through science-based, citizen-supported policies that ensure a healthy and sustainable future for our wildlife and human populations.
Cross, a Democrat, is trying to unseat Republican incumbent Jeff Brandes for SD 24. SD 24 includes the Pinellas beaches from Belleair south to Pass a Grille, and a large portion of south and mid-Pinellas County that includes a portion of St. Petersburg and the cities of Gulfport, Kenneth City, Pinellas Park, Seminole, South Pasadena and Largo, and the unincorporated Lealman area.
The election is Nov. 6. The final day to register to vote in the general election is Oct. 9.
