The race raises money for the fight against breast cancer, which will be diagnosed in one of every eight women during their lifetimes.

ST. PETERSBURG — You can sign up for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure starting Thursday (July 7), online or by paper. The event takes place Oct. 1 at Albert Whitted Park in downtown St. Petersburg, and includes timed 5K and 10K races. There is also a shorter route option of about one mile, and kids’ races. Volunteers to help with the race are encouraged.

Those who don’t want to walk or run can still participate registering under More Than Pink. It is a new category designed to encourage to offer support by registering, taking part in activities and cheering for the runners. A race t-shirt is included. This year’s event is in the evening. The kids’ races start at 6 p.m. The 10K is at 7 p.m. and the 5K time timed and general run/walk is 7:30 p.m.
