Hernando’s Rogers Park to Close Temporarily

Rogers Park | Hernando County | Places to Go

The park will be closed for about three months for a parking lot improvement project.

SPRING HILL – The Rogers Park beachfront, park and boat/kayak ramp will be closed to the public starting Oct. 9 for about three months to complete a parking lot improvement project.

Led by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the will improve water quality in the Weeki Wachee River. The project is a collaboration between SWIFTMUD and Hernando County.

The 1.8-acre project will reduce the amount of sediments and nutrients running off the parking lot into the river. Among the improvements are porous asphalt in the parking spaces, infiltration trenches and bioretention with wetland vegetation. These techniques reduce the amount of stormwater entering the river by decreasing the impervious or hard surface areas. They also improve
water quality by redirecting stormwater to treatment areas.

“Partnering on water quality projects such as this are a high priority for us,” Hernando County Commissin Chair Wayne Dukes said. “We are making strong effort to protect our lakes, rivers and springs from pollution.”

The total cost of the project is $525,000 and will be split evenly between the county and SWIFTMUD. Rogers Park is located at 7244 Shoal Line Blvd. in Spring Hill.
