UPDATE: FHP Says Riverview Woman Suspected in Fatal Hit and Run
A tow truck driver was killed this morning (Feb. 15) when he was hit on the Howard Frankland Bridge.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a Riverview woman who, they say, fled the scene of a fatal traffic accident on the Howard Frankland Bridge.
Troopers say the woman was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat northbound on the Howard Frankland Bridge about 2: 22 this morning (Feb. 15) when she hit a tow truck driver. The driver, Rogelio Perez-Borroto, 43, of Tampa, was outside his tow truck, which was parked on the outside shoulder of the roadway. The impact threw Mr. Perez-Borroto into his vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Ram owned by Lou’s Towing and Recovery. Mr. Perez-Borroto died at the scene.
The driver of the Passat did not stop, troopers say. The Passat was later found at the Crown Plaza Hotel near Westshore Mall in Tampa. Troopers say they suspect that Allison Faye Huffman, 36, of Riverview was driving the Passat. They are asking anyone with information about Huffman or her whereabouts to call (813) 631-4020.
