One Dead, One Critical in Wrong-Way Crash
It is unclear why one driver was driving in the wrong lane, FHP troopers say.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 20-year-old Tampa woman died early this morning (April 11) when she crashed her car while driving the wrong way on U.S. 41.
The Florida Highway Patrol said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She died at the scene.
The other driver, a 21-year-old Thonotosassa woman, was critically injured in the crash. Troopers said she was not wearing a seat belt either.
The crash happened about 6:56 a.m. on U.S. 41 in Hillsborough County.
Troopers said the Tampa woman was driving a Chevrolet sedan north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 when she collided nearly head-on with a Nissan sedan that was being driven south.
