Teen Skateboarder Seriously Injured in Brandon Crash

Details are unclear, but investigators do not believe that speed or impairment was a factor, Hillsborough deputies said.

BRANDON – A teen skateboarder was critically injured this morning (March 23) in a crash on Providence Lakes Road in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 17 year old was taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her name was not immediately available.

Deputies said the crash happened just before 7 a.m.on Providence Lakes Road just south of Gornto Lake Road in Brandon.

The skateboarder was riding in the bicycle lane when she was hit by a  Volkswagen Passat. Deputies said it’s unclear if the skateboarder or the driver crossed over the line separating the bicycle lane from vehicle traffic. Investigators said they do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

A portion of Providence Lakes Road was shut down as deputies investigated the crash. As of 9 a.m., the area was still shutdown.

The accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
