St. Petersburg police got a tip that Allison Faye Huffman was at a friend’s apartment in the Carillon area of the city.

ST. PETERSBURG – Police here say they received a tip shortly after 9 p.m. Monday (Feb. 15) that Allison Faye Huffman was at a friend’s apartment on Carillon Parkway.

“Officers made contact and held her until [the Florida Highway Patrol] arrived to arrest her,” St. Petersburg police said.

The FHP confirmed late Monday that Huffman had been “detained in St. Petersburg, Florida at the home of a friend.  FHP investigators will continue their investigation into the this fatal hit and run traffic crash.”

It is unclear what charges might have been filed.

Huffman, 36, of Riverview, was named earlier in the day by the FHP as the suspect  in a fatal hit and run on the Howard Frankland Bridge. Rogelio Perez-Borroto, 43, of Tampa, had stopped his tow truck to help two stranded motorists about 2:22 a.m. Mr. Perez-Borroto had the two sit in his tow truck, which was in the emergency lane, while he loaded their car. While he was doing so, he was struck and flung in the air by a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. He died at the scene. The Passat’s driver did not stop and FHP officials found the vehicle Crown Plaza Hotel near the Westshore Mall in Tampa. The driver was not there. Later in the day, the FHP named Huffman as the suspected driver and began searching for her.
