He suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his pickup truck, FHP troopers said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man died Thursday (Jan. 31) after a traffic crash on East Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

John H. Saums, 73, of Spring Hill, died at Bayfront Health Spring Hill where he was taken after the crash. The other driver, Christine Eith, 53, of Hudson, was taken to Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 3:07 p.m. at East Road and County Line Road in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Saums was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram south on Cobblestone Drive approaching County Line Road when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his truck. The Dodge hit the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu that Eith was driving north on East Road.

After the impact, the Dodge continued traveling until it ended up in a dry retention pond.
