Troopers said he failed to stay within his lane.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Plant City man was seriously injured in a crash on U.S. 92 on Tuesday (July 17) evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Raymond D. Shipley, 53, of Plant City, was taken to Lakeland Regional Health with serious injuries. Shipley was also cited for failure to drive within a single lane.

The other driver, Wayne D. Newton, 64, of Auburndale was not injured.

The crash happened about 6:21 p.m. on U.S. 92 east of Park Road in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Shipley was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup west on U.S. 92 when traffic ahead of him stopped. Shipley took evasive action by driving into the eastbound lane of U.S. 92 where the right side of the Chevrolet hit the front of the 2016 semi-tractor-trailer that Newton was driving.

After the impact, both vehicles rotated then came to rest along the south shoulder of the road.
