PINELLAS COUNTY – A St. Petersburg man is in critical condition after he was hit while crossing Ulmerton Road on Thursday (April 18), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The name of the pedestrian, a 36-year-old St. Petersburg man, was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition.

The driver, Shayla Y. Collins, 26, of Tampa, was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 5:28 p.m. at the intersection of Ulmerton Road and 49th Street N in Pinellas County.

Troopers said Collins was driving a 2014 Kia Soul south on 49th Street when she turned east onto Ulmerton and hit the pedestrian. Collins then fled the scene but, troopers said, she was found a short distance away.
