ST. PETERSBURG – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday (June 22) when he was thrown from his bike during a crash, St. Petersburg police said.

Shaun W. Arnold, 25, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries. The other driver, Mirsad Sinanovic, 57, was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. at the intersection of 38th Avenue and 31st Street N. Sinanovic was driving an Acura sedan south on 31st Street. As he began to make a left turn onto 38th, Arnold, who was riding a Ducati that was westbound on 38th, changed from the curb lane to the median lane and accelerated, police said.

The Ducati struck the driver side of the Acura and Arnold was thrown from his motorcycle. Police said a helmet was located at the scene, but it has not been determined whether or not it was being worn when the crash occurred.
