Two Seriously Injured in Pinellas Park Motor Scooter Crash

Police said the scooter drove in front of a car.

PINELLAS PARK – A scooter driver and his passenger were seriously injured when they were thrown from the vehicle during a crash Sunday (Feb. 19) afternoon, Pinellas Park police said.

The driver, Juan Eduardo Metzler, 36, of St. Petersburg was listed in serious but stable condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash. His passenger, Jamie Robert Ansotigue, 36, also of St. Petersburg was listed in critical condition at Bayfront. Neither was wearing a helmet, police said.

The crash happened about 5 p.. in the eastbound lanes of the 6300 block of Park Boulevard. Police said the scooter pulled out of an alley between 6300 and 6314 Park Blvd. and tried to cross the road in front of a 2004 Nissan Z driven by Tamara Quail, 56, of Pinellas Park. Officers said the scooter violated the Nissan’s right of way and was struck. Both Metzler and Ansotigue were ejected from the scooter.

No criminal charges pending at this time, but police said citations are pending for Metzler.
