Westbound lanes on Hillsborough Avenue were closed for about 2 1/2 hours after the crash.

TAMPA – A pedestrian died of injuries he received Wednesday (Aug. 15) in a traffic crash on Hillsborough Avenue, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Melvin Allen, 47, was taken to a hospital after the crash. He died there of his injuries.

The crash happened about 11 p.m. at 13th Street N  and Hillsborough Ave E.

Mr. Allen was walking westbound on the north sidewalk in the 1300 block of E Hillsborough Avenue when he stepped off the sidewalk into the roadway, police said. He was hit by a 2005 Kia Optima that was traveling westbound in the outside. The driver of the car remained at the scene. He has not been charged, officers said.

The westbound lanes on Hillsborough Avenue from 15th Street to 13th Street were closed for about 2 1/2 hours.
