A Plant City woman died of injuries she suffered in the crash, FHP troopers said.

POLK COUNTY – A Plant City woman died of injuries she received Sunday (Dec. 16) in a traffic crash on I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Gloria Daniel, 40, of Plant City, died at Lakeland Regional Medical Center where she was taken after the crash.

Stephen William McCullough, also known as Steven, 40, of Lakeland, the other driver, was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol after the crash. McCullough was charged with one count of DUI Manslaughter. He was not injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 9:20 p.m. on eastbound I-4 at about Milepost 28 in Polk County.

Troopers said McCullough was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse east on I-4 “at a high rate of speed.” The Traverse overtook and collided with the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Ms. Daniel.

After the impact, the Suburban was propelled to the median where it overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the median. The Traverse continued to travel east until it came to rest in the median several hundred feet east of the Suburban.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash, troopers said.
