A New Port Richey man has been arrested and charged in connection with a vehicle crash Wednesday (Dec. 21) that sent three to the hospital, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Florida Highway Patrol has charged a New Port Richey man with drunken driving after a three-car crash Wednesday (Dec. 21) that sent three people to the hospital and tied up traffic for several hours.

Nicholas Quinn Billings, 20, of 8803 New Alexandria Lane in New Port Richey, was charged with one count each of driving under the influence causing serious bodily harm and reckless driving and two counts of driving under the influence causing property damage, according to Hillsborough County jail records.

Billings and the driver of one of the other cars, Maria Victoria Romero, 64, of Tampa, were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital after the crash. The driver of the third vehicle, Nigel Johnson Osborne, 48, of Lutz, was taken to Florida Hospital Carrollwood. All had serious injuries, the FHP said.

The crash happened about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Dale Mabry Highway and Waters Avenue. Troopers said Billings, who was impaired by alcohol, was driving a 2009 Toyota Yaris east on Waters when he ran a red light at the Dale Mabry intersection. The Toyota collided with a 2009 Nissan Maxima that Romero was driving. The impact pushed the Nissan into the path of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe that Osborne was driving.
