Dade City Man Dies in U.S. 301 Crash

He drove into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer, FHP troopers say.

PASCO COUNTY – The driver of an SUV died and one of his passengers was seriously injured when his vehicle was hit after he pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Arnold Lee Koranda, 80, of Dade City, died at the scene. One of his passengers, Suzette Marie Koranda, 65, of Dade City, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in serious condition. His other passenger, Lucas McMahan, 1, of Dade City, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 2:05 p.m. Friday (Nov. 15) on U.S. 301 at the intersection of U.S. 98 in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Koranda was driving a 2008 Honda CRV at the time of the crash. Mr. Koranda first turned left (east) from a Chevron gas station at 20400 U.S. 98 into the westbound travel lane. He drove a short distance then stopped at the intersection with U.S. 301.

After stopping, Mr. Koranda drove into the intersection into the path of southbound tractor-trailer on U.S. 301.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
