Crash Kills Safety Harbor Man

Pinellas Park Police | Fatal Crash | Christopher L. Biesel

He failed to yield right of way, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.

PINELLAS PARK – A Safety Harbor man died of injuries he received Tuesday (July 18) morning in a crash on Park Boulevard, Pinellas Park police said.

Christopher L. Biesel, 52, of Safety Harbor, died at Northside Hospital where he was taken after the crash. The other driver, Kenneth J. Groff, 66, of Baldwin, was not injured.

The crash happened about 11:48 a.m. at the intersection of Park Boulevard and 43rd Street N. Officers said Groff was driving a 2004 Peterbilt semi-tractor-trailer east on Park approaching the stop light at 43rd, which was flashing yellow. Mr. Biesel was driving a 2008 Kia Spectra north on 43rd approaching the same traffic light, which was flashing red.

The Kia failed to yield the right of way by entering the intersection, police said, and the semi hit the driver’s side of the car. Police said there was a heavy thunderstorm at the time of the crash and the traffic light had gone to flash, most likely because of lightning in the area. They said Groff fully cooperated with the investigation.
