Crash Kills Brandon Motorcyclist

An SUV drove into his path, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Brandon man died Friday (Nov. 10) of injuries he received during a traffic crash on State Road 60, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael Dewey, 56., of Brandon, died Friday (Nov. 10) at a hospital where he was taken after the crash.The other driver was not injured.

James Chavez, 28, of Tampa, has been charged with failing to yield to the right of way of the motorcyclist and driving on a suspended driver’s license with knowledge. Amy Celeste Rumball, 39, of Brandon, has been charged with allowing someone to drive her vehicle who she knew was an unlicensed driver.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 9) on SR 60 in front of the Motel 6 in Brandon. Deputies said Chavez was driving Rumball’s 2008 Saturn Vue south across the westbound lanes of SR 60 when he entered into the path of Mr. Dewey who was driving a 2013 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle westbound on SR 60.

Mr. Dewey’s motorcycle struck the Saturn and he was critically injured.
