He was driving the wrong way when he veered off the access road and crashed into the water, the Clearwater Police Department said.

CLEARWATER – An Estero man died from injuries he suffered in a crash on the access road to the Courtney Campbell Causeway, the Clearwater Police Department said.

Scott Anthony Wolf, 26, of Estero, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 4:13 this morning (Aug. 19), police said. Mr. Wolf was driving a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire east – the wrong way – on the westbound access road on the north side of the causeway when the vehicle went out of control, flipped into the water and landed on its top.

Mr. Wolf was pulled from the water by a Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy who arrived on scene.
