The child ran into the path of an oncoming SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PASCO COUNTY – A 13 year old was critically injured Thursday (Oct. 13) when he was hit by an SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Gabrial Rodriguez, of Port Richey, was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the SUV, Rocco Chicarilli, 37, of New Port Richey, received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 6:28 a.m. on Ridge Road at Congress Street. Troopers said Chicarilli was driving his 2007 Hyundai Tucson west on Ridge approaching Congress. Gabrial ran across Ridge into the path of the Hyundai. No charges were filed.
