The other driver was seriously injured in the fiery, head-on crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – One driver is dead and another seriously injured after a fiery head-on collision during a chase by Pasco deputies, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Michael A. Blomberg, 54, of Land O’ Lakes, died at the Medical Center of Trinity where he was taken after the crash.

The other driver, Kirby N. Sober, 24, of Holiday, was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point in serious condition.

The crash happened about 9:50 p.m. on State Road 54 west of Odessa Gardens Lane in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Blomberg, who was suspected of kidnapping, was driving a 2015 Chrysler west in the eastbound lanes of SR 54. He was “actively fleeing Pasco County sheriff’s deputies who were traveling westbound in the westbound lanes of SR 54.” Sober was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck east on SR 54.

A short distance west of Odessa Gardens Lane, the Chrysler and the Chevrolet collided head-on and caught fire.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said deputies are investigating the pursuit.

Deputies said that preliminary information indicates there was an altercation between a man and woman at the gas station near the entrance to the Ballantrae subdivision on SR 54. A clerk at the station called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

The vehicle then fled west on SR 54 when deputies arrived and eventually crashed into the pickup.

No additional information was immediately available.
