Brooksville Motorcyclist Dies in Crash

He collided with a utility pole, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Brooksville man died Saturday (Sept. 23) when the motorcycle he was riding hit a utility pole, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gene Arden Leavitt, Jr., 51, of Brooksville, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 8:45 p.m. on U.S. 41 north of Ancient Trail. The man was riding a 2001 Yamaha north on U.S. 41 when, for an unknown reason, he left the roadway. He rode onto the west shoulder and collided with a utility pole. He was not wearing a helmet.
