He was not wearing a seat belt, Hillsborough deputies said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Brandon man died Monday (June 18) in a traffic crash on Lumsden Road, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

David A. Counts, 68, of Brandon, died at the scene. The other driver, Lucaya Barlow, 31, of Brandon, suffered minor injuries and was taken for medical help by her husband.

The crash happened about 1:06 p.m. at the intersection of Lumsden Road and Healther Lakes Boulevard.

Mr. Counts was driving his Dodge Caravan west on Lumsden Road. He tried to turn left to go south on Heather Lakes Boulevard and entered the path of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser that Barlow was driving east on Lumsden.

Barlow braked to avoid a crash, deputies said, but was unable to do so.. The front of the PT Cruiser struck the passenger side of the van. The van overturned onto its roof. Mr. Counts was not wearing his seat belt.
