HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 3-year-old child died Tuesday (Aug. 22) after being struck by a pickup truck, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Brianna Savage, 3, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital South where she died as a result of her injuries.

The crash happened about 7:27 a.m. Deputies said Christian Madson, 33, was driving his 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck southbound on Legacy Bright Street when Brianna darted into the path of the truck from the sidewalk at the intersection of Hampton Meadow Way.

Brianna, her mother, and a family friend were walking a dog along the sidewalk when Brianna darted towards her house. Deputies said Madson had looked to the right and saw the women walking the dog, but did not see Brianna. Deputies said he heard the impact and stopped to see what he had hit when he realized he had struck a little girl.
