A countywide wolf pack, headed by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, will be out in force tonight (Dec. 16) and early Saturday (Dec. 17).

PINELLAS COUNTY – Early this year, 38-year-old John Sorensen died after he was struck in Dunedin by a wrong-way driver, who was drunk at the time, Pinellas deputies said.

Tthe Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and nine other law enforcement agencies will honor Mr. Sorensen tonight by dedicating to him a countywide detail aimed at getting drunk drivers off the roads. The wolf pack will run from 7 p.m. tonight (Dec. 16) until 5 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 17).

The operation is part of the sheriff’s ongoing commitment to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving. The goal of the wolf pack is to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.

Participating in the wolf pack will be officers from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Clearwater, Gulfport, Indian Shores, Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs amd Treasure Island police departments. Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Remove Intoxicated Drivers USA, and the Suncoast Safety Council will be supporting law enforcement during the operation.
