Obama Endorses Hunter for U.S. House
Chris Hunter is running for the District 12 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
TRINITY – Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Chris Hunter in his race for the Florida District 12 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Hunter was one of 260 candidates the former president endorsed across the country for the upcoming midterm elections.
“Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something, but for something—to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor, and compassion to public service. They deserve your vote,” Obama wrote on his Twitter page.
Hunter said he was honored to receive Obama’s endorsement.
“Let’s rise, each of us, and work harder than ever. Every day. From now through Election Day, to deliver the change our country needs,” Hunter said. “We have a job to do. Democracy is not self-executing. It takes leaders of courage and conviction, from generation to generation, who stand up for what’s right. It takes voters who place patriotism over partisanship during perilous times.
“Join us. Let’s work on our democracy project together. For each other. For our children. For our country.”
Hunter is a former FBI agent whose work with the bureau focused on counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and international fugitive investigations. He most recently served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice on the health-care fraud strike force. He now teaches at Stetson University College of Law and at the University of Tampa.
Hunter, a Democrat, is running against Republican incumbent Gus Bilirakis for the CD 12 seat. CD 12 includes all of Pasco County and portions of north Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
The election is Nov. 6. The last day to register to vote in the general election is Oct. 9. Online voter registration is available at registertovoteflorida.gov.
