He is running for the District 3 at-large seat on the Tampa City Council.

TAMPA – Stephen Lytle will officially announce his candidacy for Tampa City Council at a campaign kick off Thursday (Sept. 6).

His campaign kick-off will take place at 6:30 p.m. Brew Bus Brewing, 4101 N Florida Ave., in Seminole Heights.

Lytle said he started from humble beginnings. After a troubled childhood marred with divorce and abuse, Lytle was raised on his mother’s modest teacher’s salary and learned  the value of being involved in his community, a good education and financial responsibility. Earning a pole-vaulting scholarship to the University of South Florida afforded him the opportunity to attend college and receive his degree in political science.

Lytle’s campaign said that, through hard work, dedication, and persistence, he has grown into a self-made leader in business, as well as within his community and the city of Tampa. He is currently the president of the South Seminole Heights Civic Association and is a member of the city of Tampa Code Enforcement/Public Nuisance Abatement Board. Additionally, he was appointed to the city of Tampa Citizens  Budget  Advisory Committee in 2014, serving as the chair during the past three years. It is  these experiences that have led to Lytle’s identifying three key issues that he said will better Tampa’s outlook and residents’ daily lives:

• Sound Fiscal Policy
• Improved Infrastructure
• Empowered Neighborhoods

“Together the citizens of Tampa can achieve more than any single person could ever do alone,” said Lytle. “It is time to work together and move Tampa forward.”

Lytle is regional human resources manager responsible for overseeing HR strategy and operations in Walmart’s healthcare division; a role in which he leads and supports more than 8,000 employees in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. He was recently listed an Honoree of the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 40 under 40.

This will be Lytle’s first run at public office. He’s also about to experience another first – he and his wife, Adrienne, are expecting their first child, Mille Nichole, in late November.

Lytle is running for the District 3 at-large seat on the Tampa City Council, which is currently held by Yvonne Yolie Capin. The seat is elected citywide.Tampa City Council members serve four-year terms.

The Tampa municipal election is March 5.
