Council member Patti Johnson was reelected today without opposition. Keith Sabiel was elected without opposition to the council seat being vacated by Ed Taylor.

PINELLAS PARK – Former Pinellas Park police officer Donna Saxer is running against incumbent Mayor Sandra Bradbury in the March election.

When qualifying ended today (Nov. 14), Patti Johnson and Keith Sabiel were elected to the Pinellas Park City Council when no one showed up to run against them.

Johnson will retain Seat 2, which she has held since 2012. Sabiel, a former city employee, will take Seat 4, which is being vacated by Ed Taylor who did not run for reelection.

“I am fabulously lucky to be a part of the city of Pinellas Park and I thank them for their support,” Johnson said.

Some of Johnson’s long-term goals on the council include improving transportation and housing.

Sabiel has twice run unsuccessfully – once against Bradbury for mayor and once against Johnson for the council. He said he believes that might have helped him win office with no opposition.

“I think no one ran against me because my name is so well spread now. But, I was looking forward to a good race,” Sabiel said. “I want to see the community continue to grow and become a better place to live with safe neighborhoods, surrounded by a good quality of life and with a lot of amenities to enjoy.”

In the mayor’s race, Bradbury, who has served on the council since 2002 and been mayor since 2012, is facing a first-time candidate in Saxer, a retired Pinellas Park police officer.

“I hope to keep the city moving forward, in the direction it has been going. We have been progressing for many years in a positive direction for our citizens as well as our businesses,” Bradbury said.

Saxer could not be reached for comment.

Pinellas Park is located in mid-Pinellas County. It has a council-manager form of government in which a mayor and four council members set policy and pass a budget. A city manager oversees the daily activities of the city. The mayor and council members serve two-year terms. They generally meet at least twice a month. The non-partisan seats are voted on citywide. The mayor is paid about $22,507 annually. Council members earn about $19,506 per year. The election is March 13.
