Crist Hosts Fundraiser for Flowers in School Board Race

Rene Flowers is running for reelection to the District 7 seat on the Pinellas County School Board.

GULFPORT – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, is hosting a fundraiser for Rene Flowers, who is running for reelection to the Pinellas County School Board.

The fundraiser is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tonight (July 20) at El Chapo, 3038 Beach Blvd. in Gulfport. Co-hosts include state Sen. Darryl Rouson, state Rep. Ben Diamond, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson, Pinellas County Commissioners Ken Welch and Pat Gerard, Gulfport Council Member Michael Fridovich, St. Pete Beach Commissioner Ward Frizlowski,, and St. Petersburg council members Darden Rice, Lisa Wheeler Bowman, Gina Driscoll and Charlie Gerdes. Flowers, the current chair of the Pinellas County School Board,  was elected to Nov. 6, 2012, to complete the term of deceased School Board Member Lew Williams. Flowers is a native of St. Petersburg, attended Howard University and University of South Florida; and, is a graduate of Eckerd College. She formerly served as a member of the City Council of St. Petersburg.

Flowers is running for reelection to the District 7 seat, a single-member district voted on by residents in that district. District 7 includes the southernmost tip of Pinellas County. It includes Gulfport, South Pasadena and a portion of St. Petersburg.

Also running for the seat are Tharius K. Bethel, Bilan Joseph, and Nicholas Wright. The race is non-partisan.

The School Board election is Aug. 28. Voters do not have to be a member of a political party to vote for School Board members.

The last day to register to vote in the Aug. 28 primary and election is July 30.
