SWIFTMUD Tentatively Approves Lower Property Tax Rate
The budget will be finalized in late September.
TAMPA BAY -The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s governing board adopted a proposed tax rate for the coming fiscal year that’s 5.6 percent lower than the current rate.
If finally approved, the new rate will be about $0.32 per $1,000 of assessed, taxable property value. The current rate is about $0.33 per $1,000 of assessed, taxable property value. For the owner of a $150,000 home with a $50,000 homestead exemption, the SWIFTMUD tax would be about $31.31 a year, or about $2.61 per month. Currently, it’s about $33 a year. The new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
SWIFTMUD’s proposed budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year is $181.6 million. The proposed budget includes more than $77 million for cooperative funding initiatives and district grants. District funds leveraged with partners cost sharing will result in a total regional investment of more than $151 million for sustainable alternative water supply development and other water resource management projects.
SWIFTMUD will hold a tentative budget hearing at 5:01 p.m. n Sept. 12 at the Tampa Service Office, located at 7601 U.S. 301. The board will vote on the final budget at 5:01 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Tampa Service Office.
