He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into  small pond, Pasco deputies said. No deputies were injured.

PASCO COUNTY – A Zephyrhills man was charged with attempted murder after he shot at deputies while fleeing from them, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chase Aaron Johnson, 19, of Zephyrhills, was charged with Attempted Felony Murder/Homicide. He already had outstanding warrants on charges of Armed Home Invasion Robbery and Carjacking, deputies said.

Deputies said they had been searching for Johnson because he had outstanding warrants. About 11 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 13), they received a tip about Johnson’s location and headed to the area.

As Sgt. Medina and Cpl. Conner were driving south on Ryals Road, they saw Johnson driving north. As Johnson passed the deputies, he saw them, accelerated and fled north on Ryals.Deputies tried unsuccessfully to make a traffic stop on Ryals.

Other deputies near State Road 54 deployed stop sticks, which Johnson hit. Johnson continued fleeing on SR 54 with two deputies in pursuit with their lights and sirens on.

Deputies said Johnson was driving erratically because two tires had gone flat. He turned north onto Golf Links Boulevard and continued fleeing. As he fled north on Golf Links, he stuck his hand out the car window and fired several shots at deputies.

Johnson then turned south onto Eiland Boulevard and continued to flee until he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pond.

Deputies ordered him to drop the gun, which he tossed into the pond.

Deputies took him into custody. They said Johnson admitted firing at them twice to get them to stop chasing him.

Pasco County Fire Rescue checked him after the crash and cleared him medically. No deputies were injured and no sheriff’s vehicles were hit by the bullets.
