Tampa Police Charge Man with Murder

The man is accused of shooting a woman, Tampa police said.

TAMPA – Police here have accused a man of shooting a woman to death at a gas station.

Metosha D. Godwin, 50, died at the scene, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Sol William Hoke, 39, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of first degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, driving with a cancelled or suspended license, and possession of cannabis, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.

Officers said they were called to the Tampa Super Shop gas station, 3401 E Lake Ave., because a woman had been shot. When they arrived, they found Ms. Godwin and tried to save her life but were unsuccessful.

Hoke, who knew Ms. Godwin, was identified as a suspect and, police said, they found him at 20th Street and Fletcher Avenue. They arrested him about 2 a.m. Sunday (June 18) after a stand-off.
