Justin Hughes | Hillsborough Sheriff | Arrests

The man who had been robbed identified him, according to Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man has been accused of using a knife to rob another, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Justin Hughes, 29, of Tampa, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, battery, and grand theft. Deputies said Hughes had been released from prison July 25 where he had been after being accused of two counts each of battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance and one count of carrying a concealed firearm.

Deputies said the man who was robbed had agreed to meet a woman named Anstacia early Tuesday (Dec. 19) morning. He arrived in the area around Barnside Place about 4:07 a.m. When he got out of the car, he was approached by Hughes, who was carrying a knife.

Hughes wielded the knife at the man, but the knife never made contact. Hughes stole more than $700 in personal belongings from the man before fleeing the scene on foot and running into a nearby trailer.

After conducting a search of the trailer, deputies said, the man identified Hughes who was found to be in possession of the exact amount of money that had been taken from him. Deputies called the man’s cell telephone, which could be heard ringing within Hughes’ bedroom in the trailer.

After getting a search warrant, deputies said, they found the man’s head phones, watch, tennis shoes and wallet containing identification and credit cards concealed within an air conditioning vent in Hughes’ bedroom.
