Student Brought Machete to School, St. Pete Police Say
School resources officers arrested the teen.
ST. PETERSBURG – Police here said they arrested a Lakewood High School student after he brought a machete to school.
Daquan Odatte Maybell, 18, of St. Petersburg, was charged with one count of possession of a weapon on school property.
St. Petersburg police said Maybell concealed a 28-inch machete inside a trombone case in the band room. It was discovered when another student opened the case to use the instrument. They said Maybell told the he brought the machete to school because he was going to do yard work immediately after school.
