St. Petersburg Man Accused of Attempted Murder

The shooting appears to be domestic related, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his former girlfriend, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Philandria Nero, 52, of St. Petersburg, is listed in critical, but stable condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was taken after the shooting.

James Brown Jr., 52, of St. Petersburg, is charged with one count each of attempted murder in the first degree and felonious possession of a firearm, according to Pinellas County Jail records. He is Nero’s ex-boyfriend.

The shooting happened about 5:39 p.m. Tuesday (June 11) at Nero’s home. Police said they believe the shooting was domestic-related.
