PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man has been charged with grabbing the buttocks of a teenaged McDonald’s employee, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

John Francis Jones, 44, of St. Petersburg, was charged with one count of simple battery, a misdemeanor. Police said he turned himself in.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident happened about 9 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 30) at the McDonalds, 7001 U.S. 19 N in Pinellas Park.

The 16-year-old teen, an employee at the McDonald’s, told officers that Jones “grabbed her butt while she was serving him.”

She told officers that she had served Jones and his four children and that, as they were finishing their meal, Jones came up to the counter and told her that the chicken nuggets were missing from his order.

According to the affidavit, the teen got the chicken nuggets and stepped through an opening in the counter to hand them to Jones, who “grabbed the chicken nuggets with his left hand and as victim turned to walk away, he grabbed her buttock with his right hand. The victim advised that the suspect giggled after he grabbed her buttocks. When confronted by McDonald’s management, the suspect state that he ‘was just being friendly.'”

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The teen told the manager who pulled up the surveillance video. The teen’s mother posted the video and photos on social media. Pinellas Park police said they were contacted Wednesday (Oct. 3). They discovered Jones’ identity and went to his last known address but he was not found.

Jones turned himself in Thursday (Oct. 4) evening to the Pinellas County Jail.
