A witness followed him after the crash, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Riverview man has been accused of leaving the scene of a traffic crash that critically injured a bicyclist, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with critical injuries.
Jaime Castellano, 27, of Riverview, was charged with one count each of driving with a cancelled, suspended, or revoked license and of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
Deputies said witnesses told them that Castellano was traveling west on Symmes Road from E Bay Road as the bicyclist was crossing Symmes from south to north. Castellano hit the bicyclist, who was thrown from the bike, deputies said. Castellano fled the scene.
A witness followed Castellano to 11305 Cujoe Lane where he jumped out the vehicle and hid nearby. Deputies said they found him and took him into custody.
