Largo Man Accused of Deliberately Running Over Ducklings

James Forbes Clairmont } Largo Police | Arrests

Two ducklings died and one was taken to a veterinarian to have its broken bones treated, Largo police say.

LARGO – A Largo man was arrested and accused of deliberately running over three ducklings that were playing in a puddle in a roadway at a mobile home park, the Largo Police Department said.

James Forbes Clairmont, 56, was charged with one count of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.

According to the arrest affidavit, several witnesses saw Clairmont driving his Ford truck on Sunday (Aug. 11) in the mobile home park. At the time, 11 foot-tall ducklings were playing in a shallow puddle in the middle of the roadway.

The witnesses told police that Clairmont slowed for a speed bump then accelerated toward the ducklings. Witnesses said they screamed for him to stop to avoid hitting the birds, but he ran over three of them and then fled to his home in the mobile home park.

Two of the ducklings died at the scene and one was taken to an animal hospital to be treated for broken bones.

Clairmont denied to police that there were ducks in the road, but officers said he was unable to explain why blood and duck feathers were on the wheels of his truck. Police said they believed alcohol might have been a factor in the incident.
