He also used a handgun to threaten a man, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said. The murder happened in the unincorporated Largo area.

LARGO – A Largo man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Seminole woman last Thursday (Aug. 16), according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Nathaniel J. Yates, 32, of Largo, was charged with one count each of first degree murder and aggravated assault. Yates is in custody at a local hospital where deputies found him. Largo police had taken Yates to the hospital for treatment of injuries he received Friday (Aug. 17) when they arrested him and charged him with burglary, simple battery, resisting arrest without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and battery on health service personnel.

The Largo arrest came less than six hours after Christine Giles, 28, of Seminole, was murdered.

Deputies said they were called to a residence on W Rena Drive in unincorporated Largo about 11:14 p.m. Thursday for a report of an injured person. When deputies arrived, they found Ms. Giles unresponsive in a travel trailer that was parked outside the home.

Deputies pronounced Ms. Giles deceased at about 11:22 p.m. Sheriff’s detectives said she died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives said they found multiple witness who fled before deputies arrived. Witnesses helped identify Yates as the suspect.

Detectives said Yates was in the travel trailer with Ms. Giles and 61-year-old Wesley Warn, when Yates became agitated and threatened Warn with a .380 caliber handgun. Deputies said Yates turned the gun on Ms. Giles, shot her once and fled the scene.

According to detectives, Yates returned to the scene a short time later and shot Ms. Giles again, multiple times.

Witnesses told detectives that Ms. Giles and Yates were dating for several months before Yates threatened her with violence. Ms. Giles called off the relationship. Detectives said they believe Ms Giles and Yates were dating again at the time of the shooting.
