He wanted to hire someone to kill his brother, Pinellas deputies say.

ST. PETE BEACH – Deputies have arrested a homeless man who tried to hire someone to murder his brother, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Gary Leonard Hudge, 54, a transient, was charged with one count each of Solicitation for Murder, Sale of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Undercover detectives said they were introduced to Hodge Nov. 7. During that meeting, deputies said Hodge told detectives he was interested in having his brother, Thomas Hudge, killed because of recent family trouble.

According to detectives, Gary Hodge detailed financial disagreements between him and his brother and asked the detective if he was willing to kill him for payment.

Over the course of several meetings with detectives, Hodge provided suggestions on how the murder should take place and which location would be best. Hodge provided detectives several Michigan addresses for his brother and offered to pay for transportation to commit the crime.

Detectives said Hodge offered to provide undercover detectives with a gun and money to show his sincerity at having his brother murdered.

In the final meeting with detectives, Hodge provided an initial payment to detectives for the murder and was taken into custody.

Hodge later admitted to detectives that he intended to hire the undercover detective to murder his brother.

All meetings took place in and around St. Pete Beach.
